When should I put up my Spring decorations?

Usually a few weeks before Easter. I live in a climate where it usually starts to warm up around then and I can’t wait to get the decor out! My house seems terribly naked and the idea of putting out beautiful flowers and little splashes of color is the perfect fix.

A good rule is no sooner then February (you’ll possibly tire of the decorations) and no later then the middle of April (because you’ll only get them for a couple weeks).

How do I make my house feel like Spring?

When the weather is starting to warm up, the animals are shedding their winter fur. For us, we shed the winter from our home.

1/ Open the windows and let the fresh air circulate the home.

This tip has been around since they had an enclosed homes. Stale air in the home has been contributed to some of our health problems. As much as it’s nice that we are able to insulate and seal our homes to prevent the hot or cold out — we have also prevented fresh air from coming in. When you keep all the windows closed, you trap the pollutants in where you keep breathing it in.

2/ Tidy up the front porch.

The front porch is the first thing people see when they come over, or pass by. You have the power to be very welcoming by cleaning and maintaining a nice porch. Even if it is just a door with a beautiful wreath, it is something that elevates it just a touch. Sweep off any old debris and wash those windows. The ultimate change is to paint your front door or freshen it up with another coat.

3/ Decorate for spring.

One of my absolute favorite things to do is decorate for spring! I suppose it’s because it shakes the winter blues. Or it signals to me that I’ll get to be outside more and enjoy it! Decorating for spring doesn’t have to be hard or expensive either. As you can see in the video, I don’t have top of the line decor — but just a few bright colors and everything’s a little happier!

4/ Put all winter wear away

As much fun as it is to bring out the winter coats and scarves, it’s equally (or more) fun to put them away! When you open up your front closet and see a bunch of big coats and other winter wear, it can be annoying. You’re not needing them as much and they take up so much room! I suggest putting them away in something like this. It really clears up the space and makes room for more weather appropriate jackets. Something like this I would think…

HOW DO I DECORATE MY FRONT PORCH FOR SPRING?

Your front porch is more important then you may know. It’s not just for others, but for you and your family. If you think about it, it’s like the first impression your home gives to others. Which then represents you. Decorating your front porch can be as elaborate or simple as you want.

1/ Utilize some beautiful planters

You might not have much dirt or any dirt at all to have a little front garden, but if you have a little room — then you can fit a planter. Planters give you the ability to add some natural colors and textures and also levels. Since you are able to put planters on stands it can add so much depth. Something like this…

2/ Try some outdoor furniture

Nothing is more welcoming then some comfortable furniture. Sitting outside on the porch is a pastime among the relaxed and that is for good reason! It’s calming and a wonderful place to connect with friends, family and even neighbors. Try playing around with different furniture. If you don’t have room, even having a simple tiny chair can make all the difference. One of my favorites is the classic bistro set. I see them everywhere because they are small, hold your newspaper or coffee and is a natural place to have a pleasant conversation. Plus the table can hold something beautiful like a vase of flowers.

3/ Have a cute welcome mat

This is great for a quick inexpensive fix. I find that a door without a mat almost looks unfinished, like something is missing or incomplete. Most people only have one mat that they leave all year round, which is perfectly fine. But to add a new element can change your front porch and make it look a little bit more spring-y.

Try to get colors that compliment your home but that say “spring”. They can be classic with straight lines or cute with bring color and designs. Some favorites are…
