6 Simple Self-Care Rituals to Start Your Day with Elegance
There is a reason why we are so interested in other people’s get-ready-with-me videos. It’s because we love to see how everyone starts their day. We want inspiration on how to improve our days.
This has got me experimenting with different morning routines that not only make me feel prepared for the day but also pampered enough where it is luxurious and I get excited to wake up and do it.
It’s no surprise that how you spend your first waking hours dictate the rhythm of the rest of the day. It’s important to find what works for you – and I thought I’d share my morning routine in hopes that you can use one or more and makeover your mornings.
Let me paint a picture for you, imagine you went to bed a little later than you hoped because the latest show was just too good to not watch the end. You’ve already hit snooze once and now you’re regretting not getting more sleep.
You caught a glimpse of the time and realize it’s been 20 minutes you’ve been staying in bed so you instinctually jolt out of bed and rush to the bathroom. (This causes more problems then you know! – even heart health problems).
Instead of taking it slow and relaxing you have to take a shower and get dressed and maybe skip the morning coffee. Nothing about this is elegant and if anything it makes you feel unprepared for the day.
Since elegance is an attitude, it is about perfecting the art of moving through life with purpose and treating yourself well. This also includes protecting your morning routine and infusing it with things you enjoy. It doesn’t have to look the same as your favorite influencer because we all have different lives and pleasures. However, I hope you take this post and can steal a few of my ideas because I truly felt that it transformed my life.
Let’s start with the standard advice for a good morning routine. You drink a glass of water, do a quick stretch, and write in a journal. While there is nothing wrong with these habits and they help to form a solid foundation, sometimes you crave something more refined. You want a morning that feels just for you and also feels elegant and beautiful.
Elegance thrives in the unexpected. It is about curating a life that feels beautiful to you, even if it looks entirely different from the mainstream. When you step outside the usual self-care advice, you open the door to fresh inspiration. You allow yourself to begin the day not just being productive nd check things off a list, but as an artist of your own life.
If you want to elevate your morning experience, it is time to embrace a new approach. Leave behind the predictable and step into a world of creativity and grace. Here are 6 unique self-care rituals to help you start your day with elegance.
Wake Up Enthusiastically
Not everyone reading this will be a morning person, I understand that. However, if you are someone that needs to start their day at 6 am, then let’s figure out how we can do this.
Besides getting enough sleep, how else can we not just wake up, but wake up with excitement for the day?
What really helps me is to wake up with a purpose. Not just wake up and meander around – because this can be dangerous! I might end up scrolling or getting nothing accomplished (which makes me feel worse later!)
Figure out what makes you feel good – is it getting work done? Is it exercising? Is it checking things off a list? is it reading for an hour?
Just as any other part of your life, it needs to be about balance. You cant just do one thing – its about relaxing and working, etc.
Find those few things that really get you inspired!
Hydrate with Elegance
How many times have we heard to drink water when we get up?
Honestly, it even bores me when I type this – but it really has been a game changer for me. I have a bottle of water sitting on my bedtable and I will pour my glass full and drink it before I even get out of bed.
This helps with slowly getting out of bed, it forces me to wait a few extra minutes while I drink the water.
Water is really so helpful on so many things! I find that it actually helps!
Change Out of Your Pajamas to Your Elegant Loungewear
I find it very important to get out of your pajamas as early as possible. I’m not sure if this is common but I really don’t like wearing my pajamas for very long after bed because I feel like it makes my mentality feel a little lazy.
Even the nicest pajamas made of high quality fabrics, it still is my pajamas. They trigger a mood in my mind to get ready for bed or to be sleeping. It sends the message to my brain to move to the next part of my day.
After I drink my water, I change into my morning clothes.
These clothes are the clothes between my pajamas to my outfit I’ll be wearing that day. Sometimes I have my workout clothes too that would go after my morning clothes. It depends on what I’m doing that day,
Your Daily Word of “Elegance”
After you’ve changed, you have drank your glass of water and woke up excited – now you can focus on the part of your morning where you prepare for the day.
Choose an elegant word that you can think about throughout the day. For example, depending on how I feel or if I didn’t get enough sleep, my word can be “patience”, or “happiness”, or “calm”. It just really depends on how I woke up.
I don’t want to put more stress on myself but sometimes I need the motivation.
Look at this as your oppurtunity to improve your day.
See the Beauty, Especially Your’s
Start seeing the beauty everywhere, especially on yourself.
I find that this helps my confidence, instead of going on your phone and looking at other people and their lives – I like to focus for a few minutes on myself.
Spend time to work on yourself, but before you do it’s important to appreciate your own beauty. This is not about being full of yourself, but about starting to love yourself. And love all of it.
Find what you have that you love. I like to look at it as a “flaw” or a quirk that makes you difference.
I want you to seeing yourself as beautiful even though you might be able to find all your flaws, I can promise you that no one else can see them like you do!
Practice the “Half-Speed” Technique
Mornings have a tendency to feel rushed.
Even if I don’t wake up late and don’t have that much on my list, I feel like I need to rush through my sin care or shower or coffee.
This rushing “gotta-set-everything-done-now” can go through the rest of my day and can make me feel anxious.
I needed to do something different because I didn’t like living likee I was in some marathon.
I started to impliment a technique that I like to call the “half-speed” technique. It’s exactly as it sounds. I do most of my routines at half speed. It forces me to slow down on getting ready, on enjoyng my coffee or even washing the morning dishes.
It has helped with preventing my body and mind from jumping into the “fight or fight” mode and remain in the calm mood that I need, especially in the mornings.
Obviously if I am working out, I don’t do this, but it is more for the mundane chores or routines that there is no need to rush through.
In Conclusion
I hope that these six ways of adding self care to your morning routine can really help you get a good start to your day! I know they’ve helped me in so many ways and even though I don’t always do them every single morning – when I do fit them in I am so much happier that I did!
