Minimalist Capsule Wardrobe
It’s amazing to spring clean your wardrobe because for me it makes me fall back in love with my clothes again. There’s nothing more sweet then walking into your closet and seeing the beauty that is all yours to wear.
I try to acquire and maintain a minimalist capsule wardrobe because it keeps me sane. When I was younger I used to have so many clothes. This was a little over 10 years ago and nothing inside if really made me feel beautiful.
They mainly consisted of impulse buys along with ones that were on sale that were too good to walk away from. Sadly, these clothes were not only cheaply made (so they didn’t wear well or stand up to washing) but they weren’t classic. I couldn’t grow with them.
These clothes were outdated as fast as they were made. That’s the problem with buying fast fashion. Although the price tag is attractive and they might look good hanging up in the store, the moment you bring them home and wash a few times — they end up looking ratty and worn.
Trying to embrace a capsule wardrobe helps you refuse some of the clothes that you don’t need. Most of the time when I used to go through my closet, I ended up having a lot of the same clothes. The reason is because I would either forget I had it (since there were too many to remember) or the one I brought previously didn’t look as good anymore.
Instead of buying quality, I just kept my mentality of quantity.
You assume more is better, more clothes means you have more options, but the opposite is true really. Too many clothes leads to overwhelm and for some reason, nothing looks good on you.
Having a daily uniform
One of the biggest stressors today is wearing clothes that make you feel beautiful and powerful. Clothes are able to make you feel feminine and feel like everything is perfect. Sadly, they also have the ability to make you feel worthless or that nothing in life really matters — including yourself. I know that’s a little dramatic, but I’m trying to make a point!
A wonderful way to reduce some of that anxiety is to have a daily uniform. Something that is similar to your signature brand, but can be defined even more simpler. For some women, it can be wearing only dresses and skirts, because it makes them feel like they are just so graceful and glowing.
For some women, it is the perfectly cut pair of jeans with a ironed blouse.
There are also a group of women who just adore the more smart casual outfits with dress pants and blazers.
It’s funny because when I first thought about this idea, having a daily uniform, I didn’t think about just my normal daily wear. Like many women, I just assumed it was about what someone would wear to a job that requires a uniform.
Why do people like capsule wardrobes?
Because it makes their life easier! They don’t need to think too much about what to wear and it is usually looks well put together. That’s why the daily uniform is such a great idea!
When you want to spring clean your wardrobe, envision what your uniform would be if you had one. How can you make it better.
Write down what is your daily uniform, how you want to be described and what pieces you are missing from your closet.
Find your style and grow from there
Finding what you truly love is so difficult and in talk I the video about how you can start this by searching for a role model that is whom you want to emulate. Not only does she need to have the same type of body shape but she needs to be who you can see yourself as.
What are the benefits of a capsule wardrobe?
The benefits of a capsule wardrobe is that you no longer need to be overwhelmed by the amount of clothes in your wardrobe or closet.
The amount of money you save is wonderful as well!
Yes, in the beginning when you are starting out, buying the first piece or two might cost a couple hundred dollars, depending on what the article of clothing is, but they last so much longer.
It’s truly important that the fabric has a feeling of quality because you will be wearing it often. Not only because you don’t have as many clothes but also because you genuinely love it and the way it makes you feel!
Questions about having a Minimalist Capsule Wardrobe
How do you make a minimalist capsule wardrobe?
The best way to make a minimalist capsule wardrobe is to see all the clothes that you already have. See how many basics you already have. What clothes do you wear on a regular basis?
How many pieces are in a minimalist wardrobe?
A minimalist wardrobe should only be compared to yourself. For some people, having 10 – 15 articles of clothing is all that is necessary. For others around 50.
It’s hard to say because if you started with hundreds of different shirts and pants then having around 80 different articles of clothing is minimizing your wardrobe and therefore making it easier.
Adopting an elegant lifestyle is not about counting how many clothes you own and if you have only 20 — then you will have an elegant wardrobe.
I probably have too many but the most important part is that it doesn’t cause me any stress. When I walk into my closet I don’t feel overwhelmed. If I started to get anxious then I would know it’s time for a wardrobe edit.
The main idea of a minimalist wardrobe is not how many but how many until you get stress.
It also depends on how much room you have too!
Are capsule wardrobes boring?
Absolutely no!
They are only boring if you don’-t like your clothes.
Imagine walking into a store where there is a collection of all your favorite clothes that also fit you perfectly!
That’s your closet! Does that sound boring to you?
What is the point of a capsule wardrobe?
The point of a capsule wardrobe is to make things easier for you when it comes to buying and wearing clothes. If you know every piece you own, you don’t feel the need to go out and buy another black sweater (and then realize you already own 3 of them!)
A capsule wardrobe relives the morning stress that you don’t know what to wear or that you don’t have anything to wear!
How much does a capsule wardrobe cost?
As much as you want it to.
In the beginning, it can be a little bit more costly. Especially if you don’t have anything to start with. However, it doesn’t need to be very expensive. Buy things when they are on sale and plan out your wardrobe.
Also, don’t go shopping without a plan either!
Why wear the same thing every day?
This is something that everyone assumes happens when you have a capsule wardrobe but that’s not always the case.
Think back when you went on vacation last. Most likely, you probably packed quite a few shirts but you really only ended up wearing a couple because you felt that you looked your best in them.
This is the same idea. If you really love the way your clothes look and feel on you then wearing the same thing every day or a couple times a week won’t be a problem!
